PRESS STATEMENT : Botswana Now Chair of the Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM)

Botswana is now the Chair of the Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM). This follows the 9th meeting for the organisation’s Council of Ministers (CoM) held recently.

Hosted by Angola on Thursday, 28h April, 2022, this was the second virtual meeting for the CoM. Angola’s Minister of Energy and Water, Hon. João Baptista Borges, out-going ZAMCOM Chair, presided over the meeting. The holding of the virtual meetings is in line with the new normal of hosting high level meetings due to the COVID-19 pandemic that ravaged the whole world.

Hon. Borges later handed over the Chairship to Botswana represented by Hon. Kefentse Mzwinila, the Minister of Lands and Water Affairs.ZAMCOM Chairship is rotational and takes place alphabetically annually at an ordinary session of the Council of Ministers meeting. This is the second time that Botswana takes over as Chair of ZAMCOM.

PRESS RELEASE: 9th SADC RBO WORKSHOP

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) in collaboration with the Zambezi Watercourse Commission (ZAMCOM), and with the technical support of the Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWPSA) is scheduled to convene the 9th SADC River Basin Organisations / Shared Watercourse Institutions (RBOs/SWIs) Workshop on 22-23 September 2021. The workshop will be held under the theme ‘Promoting Inclusive and Collaborative Transboundary Water Financing for Sustainable Industrial Development’.

The workshop aims to promote sustainable industrial development in SADC by fully realizing the benefits of cooperation across shared waters. It will provide a platform for stakeholders from water and related sectors to share information and experiences on inclusive transboundary water financing and collaborative development in line with the theme.

Gender Session - 9th SADC RBOs/SWIs Virtual Workshop

The Gender Session for the 9th Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) River Basin Organisations / Shared Watercourse Institutions (RBOs/SWIs) Workshop will be held virtually on 21 September 2021, under the theme ‘Integrating gender equality and social inclusion into water programs of the SADC RBOs/SWIs and Member States'.
